How long should I walk my 5 month puppy? German Shepherd, female. When she is an adult, how long should I walk her? Right now I am giving her about 1/2 walk. Is that too much, too little?

If you mean 1/2 mile and she is tolerating it without any problems, that should be fine. If she likes walks and they dont seem to be stressing her physically, you can add to the distance as she ages. Dont walk her in extreme heat, when there is a heat advisory or mid-day/afternoon as dogs can also over-heat. I have heard of some dogs going several miles a day. I wouldnt jog her but walk her and she should be fine. She will let you know when you have had enough but dont overwalk her and then she cant make it back. Let her build up to longer distances and avoid heat. Also, dont let her drink water from standing pools, you never know what bacteria is in there or if it has any anti-freeze or other chemicals toxic to dogs.

Ditto the advise on drinking from standing pools. Anti freeze has a sweet taste that dogs love, but that stuff is highly toxic and can kill a dog. I bring a foldable (is that a real word?) drinking bowl and a nice cool bottle of drinking water on walks during the hotter summer months so that we can share a cool drink when it gets too hot. I also carry my cell phone so I can phone home in an emergency.
