I found my dog dead in his doghouse, he had been shot with a small caliber weapon 13 times, probably a 22. I called the sheriff's dept and they sent a debuty out and he made a report, thats all he could do. I have a suspect but no proof. A neighbor's dog had been shot a few months ago, he survived. We live on several acres and our dogs are outside. This bothers me so much I can't sleep at night, and living in the same neighborhood with a person that would do this is nerveracking. I thought about publisizing this by putting an ad in the local paper, not calling any names of course. Is this a good idea? I submitted this info to kthv tv in Little Rock, but no response. HELP

I would demand that the local police or sheriff's office interview the person you suspect. I would also contact the attorney general's office or a private attorney to see if you can insist on a search warrant to see if this person owns a weapon that matches the bullets that killed your dog. They can do ballistics testing on the weapon to see if there is a match. None of this will come easily. You would probably have to convince them you also feel threatened and this person is also a danger to people, not just animals. Despite overwhelming evidence that people who act this way towards animals is highly likely to abuse people as well, most law enforcement agencies want to scuff it off. The suspected person is lucky as some people would take things into their own hands and burn his house down or worse. Sooner or later, he is going to kill the wrong person's dog. If you get a dog in the future, you might bring them in at night or put them in the garage. In his mind, he might have shot the dog bc it was barking at night. Not that this makes it right but sick people justify things in their sick brains. Good luck. I couldnt live in a neighborhood where things like this happen. You can either move, or do something about it before this person acts again on another defenseless animal.

Whoever shot your friend is one sick SOB if you ask me. I wish I knew what you could do to get the bastard charged or something for what they did. It's hard to believe how low some people will go. Hope you are doing OK.

In my opinion the person (if you can even call them that) who did this to your dog is not only a F---- Asshole, but should be shot themselves. Who is it and where do they live? I know a few people that would come up there and take care of this F---head once and for all. Then you could sleep at night.

Stuff like that happens here during the summer, apparently, when the kids are out of school. We've had a bunch of livestock and pets killed with a .22 this summer. Since it is "just kids", people accept it. Yes, well, those sick "kids" grow up to be sick adults, who abuse "just" their families, and become "just" serial killers.....and innocent animals, people, and taxpayers "just" pay for it.
