Widget is an independent rescue. Here’s the story (written by Widget’s rescuer) of Widget’s life and how he came to be looking for a home.
Widget is about a 7 year old Sharpei/Lab mix who wandered up to a boarding kennel as a pup and remained for his entire life until recently when we started trying to find a home for him. I would see Widget each time I came to visit rescue dogs that I volunteer with. Slowly the kennel workers allowed me to pet him and take him out for play-time in the grass. It was love at first hug! Knowing that a pup as adorable and in need of love and touch was stuck in a kennel run ripped at my heart. So the re-homing process began. The kennel owner had never really given it thought to find him a home, just kept him as a kennel dog. Doesn’t make sense to me but he will not go back there EVER.
Widget is a sweetheart and had never spent a night on anything except concrete until one month ago. He does not jump on counters, does not make messes in the house and knows to use the bathroom outside. Widget stayed the last month (12/10-1/10) living with a man in Dallas who adopted him but the man has not followed the rules he agreed to so I pulled him the day before the very cold weather hit here.
He is currently staying at a kennel where he has play times with other dogs multiple times a day and Widget is getting along with all of the pups he comes in contact with. I did a “kid test” on him by yanking on his ears, pulling him by his tail, getting down in his face and following him everywhere he moved to and then making loud noises in his face. He did not have any reaction besides to just look and walk off to sniff other places. He was around a cat at the vet clinic and was behaved as well. If you are interested in Widget and do have a cat, it would be a good idea to introduce them gently.
Widget is fully vetted and healthy as an ox.
This lil pup stole my heart and he will do that with your heart as well. If you would like to bring him into your home, please contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org
Happy New Year- let’s make it so for Widget as well!!
Please don’t be tempted to adopt Widget on an impulse. You should take the time to carefully consider the long term commitment, expense, and passion it takes to give him the home he deserves. Widget will reward you with unbounded love and devotion, but you must be committed and serious about your decision to bring him into your life. Remember, this is an adoption, not a sale, and we’re very serious about making sure that both you and Widget are a good match for each other.
An adoption fee applies to Widget’s adoption, and helps to reimburse our expenses for all of the necessary vet care that has been provided to include: spay or neuter (mandatory - no exceptions, rabies, micro-chipping and registration, all vaccinations (including all puppy shots, rabies, adult boosters and Bordatella, grooming, Frontline for flea/tick preventative, heartworm check if age appropriate and monthly preventative for all ages while in foster care. The adoption fee does not reimburse for all expenses and covers only a portion of most expenses involved in rehabilitating our rescues and returning them to health. Please keep this in mind when you are adopting a dog.
Widget is an independent rescue, so he will not be available to be met in person at our weekly adoption showing at the West Little Rock Petco on Chenal Parkway, across from Target and Home Depot. You should make direct contact with his rescuer by email at email@example.com to find out more about Widget and make arrangements to meet him.
Due to time restraints, we are not able to accept phone calls but we always try and answer all emails within 24 hours. All of our young and adult dogs are available for a 2 week home visit before finalizing the adoption process (local adoptions only). This is to help ensure it is a good match for all involved without making a final commitment. Puppies under the age of 6 months are not available to go on home visits. All of our rescues are in private homes and not available to be visited outside of showing times. All of our foster homes work with our rescues to ensure they are crate trained and most are also housetrained. None of our foster homes have cats, so we can only make our best guess as to how our rescues would do with cats. We rescue from high kill shelters and once accepted into our program, none of our rescues are euthanized. We provide for all their vet care, socialization and training until an appropriate home can be found. We rely solely on donations and are a 501(c)3 Humane Society.
Thank you for your interest in rescue and in saving the life of a dog. Every day in the United States, 11,000 dogs die.
