Matilda is a sweet and charming German Shepherd puppy who with her brother, sister and mother Gabby were discovered abandoned in an alley in downtown Little Rock a few months ago.
DogsOnly was contacted on the eve of a major snow storm in Little Rock about a stray German Shepherd and her pups. Due to the weather, DogsOnly was very concerned about this situation. There was about 8 inches of snow on the way and sub-freezing temperatures.
Unfortunately by the time that DogsOnly was contacted, most of the puppies had not survived. DogsOnly picked up Matilda, her mother, and her brother and sister the day a big snow storm hit Little Rock.
When DogsOnly arrived, the mother, since named Gabriella, was found to have a very large abscess on her neck, but she was the first to accept rescue. Matilda and the other pups remained cautiously behind in the alley watching as the DogsOnly volunteer tried to gently coax them into her car. When Matilda and the other pups saw their mother accept rescue, they ran to stay with her.
Matilda and her family are now healthy, happy, in a loving foster home where they receive all the good food and clean water they need. Just for good measure, they’re also getting oodles of love and attention.
Matilda will probably grow up to be a first-class canine companion. However Matilda is not for a family seeking an "easy" puppy, because there is no such thing. Please remember that as beautiful and cuddly as Matilda is at the moment, she will grow into an adult canine companion in no time at all. You should also be prepared for the usual trial of rearing a young puppy including the chewing, crying, potty training, and constant demands. For this reason we would prefer that Matilda ’s new family is experienced and understands her needs. Remember, just like kids, puppies grow up real fast, and need lots of patience, love and attention along the way.
An adoption fee applies which covers all necessary vet care to include: spay or neuter (mandatory - no exceptions), rabies, micro-chipping and registration, all vaccinations (including all puppy shots, rabies, adult boosters and Bordatella), grooming, Frontline for flea/tick preventative, heartworm check if age appropriate and preventative, collar and 50% of basic training classes.
To learn more about Matilda, you can send an email to email@example.com or complete an online adoption application by clicking the orange colored text links at the top or bottom of this page. Due to time restraints, we are not able to accept phone calls outside of our regular showing time at Petco on Chenal across from Target and Home Depot on Saturdays from 1:00 to 4:00 where and when you can meet Matilda, but we always try and answer all emails within 24 hours. All of our rescues are in private homes and are not available to be visited outside of showing times. You can also meet Matilda and find out for yourself how wonderful and happy she really is at the DogsOnly adoption showings, but please call or email before you come to visit to make sure that she is still available for adoption.
Please don’t be tempted to adopt Matilda on an impulse. You should take the time to carefully consider the long term commitment, expense, and passion it takes to give her the home she deserves. She’ll reward you with unbounded love and devotion, but you must be committed and serious about your decision to bring her into your life. Remember, this is an adoption, not a sale, and we’re very serious about making sure that both you and Matilda are a good match for each other.
All DogsOnly foster homes work with our rescues to ensure they are crate trained and most are also housetrained. Few of the DogsOnly fosters have cats in their homes so we can only make our best guess as to how our rescues would do with cats. We rescue from high kill shelters and once accepted into our program, none of our rescues are euthanized. We provide for all their vet care, socialization and training until an appropriate home can be found.
DogsOnly relies solely on donations and is a 501(c)3 Humane Society. Our mission is to rescue dogs that most other groups are not interested in due to their size, breed, age, health or other various reasons, and to provide education resources for dog owners and those with an interest in the wellbeing of dogs. DogsOnly believes that no dog should be left behind.
Thank you for your interest in rescue and in saving the life of a dog. Every day in the United States, 11,000 dogs die.
