Dante is very calm and loving chubby Dachshund who can be very playful. He was rescued from a puppy mill in Arkansas where dogs and puppies are bred in horrendous conditions by cruel and irresponsible breeders. The dogs that live in puppy mills suffer from chronic health problems, live in overcrowded and unsanitary conditions, and don’t receive adequate food, water or veterinary care. The breeding dogs and their puppies tend to be housed in extremely cramped conditions, often exposed to the elements. Females are sometimes forced to breed every time they are in heat to increase profits, resulting in gradually decreasing sizes of litters. To make matters worse puppy mill dogs are weaned from their mothers well before the eight to ten weeks that is normally recommended. Dogs in puppy mills are often bred indiscriminately. While the puppies produced may come with pedigrees, the pedigree itself is neither an indication of quality nor authenticity.
Despite the conditions that Dante must have suffered, he has done well, and thanks to the oodles of love and care he’s gotten from his foster family, Dante has recovered nicely and has turned out to be one terrific canine companion.
Dante is full vetted (neutered, all shots, and heartworm tested negative). He’s also had his teeth cleaned, so he’s got one handsome smile. To complement his Hollywood teeth Dante has one brown and one blue eye. He is a bit on the chubby site and needs to go on walks and get lots of exercise. He’s not getting any diet food right now as he needs all the nutrition he can get.
Dante is independent rescue supported by DogsOnly, but if you would like to learn more or even meet him you can send an email to his rescuers, Bob and Ursula, at email@example.com
You can also complete an online adoption application by clicking the links at the top or bottom of this page, or send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org. You application or emails will be sent to Dante's guardians without delay.
All of our young and adult dogs require a 2 week home visit before finalizing the adoption process. This is to help ensure it is a good match for all involved without making a final commitment. All of our rescues are in private homes and not available to be visited outside of showing times.
All of our foster
homes work with our rescues to ensure they are crate trained and most
are also housetrained. None of our foster homes have cats, so we can
only make our best guess as to how our rescues would do with cats.
We rescue from high kill shelters and once accepted into our program, none of our rescues are euthanized. We provide for all their vet care, socialization and training until an appropriate home can be found. We rely solely on donations and are a 501(c)3 Humane Society. The only support we receive is from donations from the general public.
Thank you for your interest in rescue and in saving the life of a dog. Every day in the United States, 11,000 dogs die.
